The Underground Exclusive December 2010

The Undeground Team

Hi guys,

first of all, we deeply apologize for this post coming really late... *buries head in shame*.... we are sorry....

The Underground is an original initiative by the inner circle, a group of young individuals with a passion for music. The event is all about discovering talents and the underground does just that. The Underground Exclusive was a special Christmas edition supported by Chocolate City and DrunknMunky. This took place at Rehab, Victoria Island on Sunday the 26th of December 2010.

The event kicked off at 6pm and ended at about 9pm with dancing from the audience when the show was over.

The event has gotten bigger in just a year with over 50 applcations for a chance to grace the Underground stage. The artistes were screened by a panel of very influential people in the music industry including artistes, music producers and managers. We had to cut the list to 20 artistes to do their thing!

The day was a massive success with over 500 people in attendance and a list of celebrity judges that included Pope, Beazy, Ill Bliss, Adey, Tha Suspect, Toolz and Gbemi of Beat Fm and many more. Also in attendance were various music producers, managers and directors.

The line-up of competing artistes included artistes from different genres of the industry. Some of the artistes that performed were Banky, Cosmos, D Tone, Dem Boyz, Eftee, Esel, Fabulous Guys, Irene, Oshman, Sammy, Songstar, Stoned, Tfresh, Thardey Fweshniz, Trillz, Yesi and Yung boss. After a very impressive first round, the crowd voted and as the votes were counted, past winner and runner up Oye Smith and Chris Nice performed for the guests. Beazy and Pope also performed their hit songs and spiced up the day. The finalists as chosen by the audience were Thardey fweshniz, Oshman, Yesi and sammy.

The finalists were required to perform once again to enable the judges pick the winner.

After a second performance that saw Sammy free styling on his prepared beat, Thardey Fweshniz freestyling with no beat, Yesi's slick style rap and Oshman dropping it with his Yoruba flow, the celebrity judges now had the job of picking the winner. The votes were tied between Yesi and Oshman and the crowd quickly shouted out for a rap battle between the 2 finalists. There were rounds of a heated battle between the two that saw Rehab's roof screamed down.

The winner was obvious. The people's champ. Yoruba rapper. Oshman who wowed the crowd with his exceptional and traditionally inspired lyrics and walked home with the crown.

Celebrity performances included Pope, Beazy and Adey closing the show.

The grand prize includes a solo track produced by award winning producer Jesse Jagz, solo track sponsored by Spellz, full artistes profiling on Bella Naija, 360 nobs and supported online media from Ynaija.com, Gidilounge and LastplanetoLagos. Other prizes include clothing by Drunknmunky, Nack and Vincent Gath.

The Underground has grown from strength to strength and continues to pave the way for upcoming artistes looking for a break in the music industry.
