A Recap On How Underground III Went Down

Hello guys,

Underground was here again on the 27th of November, 2010 at Soul Lounge at the Palm and kicked off 5pm on the dot (Yes, No naija time.. lol)

Before I go on, just want to say a big thank you to all Underground supporters and guests. we couldn't have done this without you all.

For those of you familiar with the Underground concept, the event provides a platform for individuals with amazing talents to showcase themselves to the world as they plan to enter the entertainment/music industry.

The underground thereby acts as a support, tool of awareness and publicity of these amazing artistes.

The 3rd Edition of the Underground was powered by Dreamblast enterprises - West Africa's official supplier of the Drunkn Munky clothing brand. It was also supported by 360nobs.comand Chocolate city and H & V (A PR and Marketing firm).

It was hosted by Folashayo Oke (Inner circle President) and Tolu Togun (Director, Dreamblast enterprises) who kicked off the event by giving a summary of the event, announcing the contestants and recognizing Jesse Jagz for his support.

An epical showdown with all genre of music fully represented, this edition attracted a total number of 50 entries which was narrowed down to the best 13 through the help of a panel of professional musicians who focused on creativity, lyrics and vocal range.

When the first edition started, audience was at a number of about 80-100 and grew to 200 in the 2nd and now, its a huge success with over 400 people in attendance. Once again we say a big THANK YOU!

There were special appearances by Adey, Jesse Jagz, Tosyn Bucknor, Beazy, Pope, Noble Igwe and loads more.

The 13 contestants that performed at this event were (Cj,Chris Nice, Gambeet, DOS, Ill Tizzi, Krolex,LOS, OK Davies, Tola Smith, Stanchi, Trip city, Victor and X-Tee) ready to show off their talents to the audience and celebrity judges in attendance- Jesse Jagz and Mr.Control (Adey).

One after the other, the acts performed and it was obvious they meant business as they were able to WOW the crowd. They performed live with precision, confidence, creative dance moves, incredible vocal ranges and a swag driven stage presence.

The most outstanding performances came from the only female contestant Oyetola Smith, D.O.S (Definition of Sound), Chris Nice and L.O.S (Love of Sound). These 4 were able to get the audience on their feet while they performed.

The Top 3 was decided by the audience who were given voting slips when they arrived. While the slips were being counted, the guests were entertained by a freestyle to stanky leg by MC Tolu Togun and also a Da Grin inspired freestyle by a member of the audience.

The MC's announced the top 3 contestants as voted by the audience. Oyetola Smith, D.O.S and Chris Nice were voted as the Top 3.

The guest judge Jesse Jagz asked for a repeat performance from them and all three contestants showed just why they deserved to be in the top 3.

Oyetola Smith started the final with what was the most mind blowing performance of the day, with music from her soul she sang passionately almost bringing tears of joy from everyone in attendance. She did the song titled 'You make it real' by James Morrison.

Chris Nice blew the crowd away with his dance moves and a very catchy song he calls 'Dakada' but we like to call it 'Jakara' or that's what we heard anyways; moonwalking and even doing a superman dive on the tiled floor. It was an energetic performance from him.

Finally D.O.S along with their dancers also lit the up the stage with their song titled 'Take Home to Mama'

Jesse jagz and Adey who were guest judges, came on stage for the final moment which was to announce the winner of the 3rd edition of the Underground. After having a few words between them they both called out the top 3 contestants and announced the winner to beOyetola Smith.

She was born in 1987 and is an adorable, fun, gorgeous lady with a great passion for music. Winning the Underground has earned her an opportunity to work with artistes/producer Jesse Jagz, full clothing by Drunkn Munky and Vincent Gath, Free recording sessions sponsored by Inner Circle and other prizes including full profiling on all major media including Bella Naija, 360Nobs, Gidilounge amongst others.

The event came to a close with the audience coming on stage to dance as Mr.Control (Adey) performed his hit tracks-why you dey lie, control and brilliant remix of the classic Beng Beng.

It was a huge success with recognizable contribution from the head of PR- Taiwo Kamson (Inner Circle); we can’t wait to see what Inner Circle has up their sleeves next.
